Activating space the airbrushed gradient, from forest green to tangerine, is layered with a thin bouncing line work. Op artist YEK uses atmospheric abstraction to reach a new level of perspective: "I want my paintings to have magic so that romance can happen, so people will feel good."
YEK was born in 1969 in Singapore and currently lives and works in Las Vegas, Nevada. He made the decision to drop his last name to remove his ethnicity from his work. After attending high school in Australia, he immigrated to the United States to pursue his career in art. While pursuing his M.F.A. at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, he studied under the art critic Dave Hickey, who referenced YEK's work as: "the most exquisitely synthetic art I've seen in a long time...it's just steadiness and commitment. It's not conceptual. It's intellectual."
